What is Programme Movie Music?

Programme Movie Music is the trademark name of the methodology that uses movie music / programme music as a tool in psychotherapy, personal growth, and business. The term programme music refers to music of a narrative or descriptive kind; the term is often extended to all music that attempts to represent extra musical concepts without resorting to sung words. The term movie music is a genre of music more commonly known as film music. Essentially any and all music that has ever been used with a movie can be called, "movie music".

What is Programme Movie Music Methodology?

As a psychotherapeutic adjunct, it's a process that uses pre-recorded Programme Movie Music to contain and reflect issues in therapy to diagnosis and decrease difficulties such as depression, anxiety, and stress. A theoretical orientation called the Whole Person Triangle has it's roots in Rational-Emotive Therapy by Albert Ellis, this methodology focuses on resolving emotional dysfunction's in conjunction with a cognitive-behavioral model and strives for a better quality of life.

National Public Radio (NPR)
"On the Media"

On Academy Awards night, March 24, 2000, National Public Radio (NPR) "On the Media" premiered a story on Movie Music Psychotherapy. Journalist Steve Mencher reported on the methodology and shared his personal experience with Jim Dziwak’s Music Psychotherapist methodology on-the-air, experiencing first-hand the power of Dziwak’s Programme Movie Music in psychotherapy. 

Listen as Mencher explores his own personal issues with Dziwak while he employs selected portions of the score from IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, composed by Ernest Gold, and MEET JOE BLACK, composed by Thomas Newman, to help him focus and integrate his new awareness. Steve Mencher also interviewed Oscar nominee, Thomas Newman (AMERICAN BEAUTY) in which he shared his views on writing music for movies (including the score for AMERICAN BEAUTY) and the use of his movie music in psychotherapy.
